Unfortunately, Jake spent most of Sunday in meetings. I, on the other hand, lucked out and spent the day on Lamma Island with friends. Lamma is an incredible spot that is just a 25 minute ferry ride from Central. (Isn’t that pretty much the theme of HK? All these serene spots are surprisingly close.) View of the village as you get off the ferry. Reminded me of Tai O, except that Lamma has lots of interesting shops and NO CARS! You can walk from one end of the island to the other in about 40 minutes, which what we set out to do…
First stop. A great little shop where I found these postcards. I thought the pattern on the dog in the picture looked familiar….. low and behold, the model sat just a few feet away from me. According to the owner (great little lady), she has four dogs, but this one is her best friend and guards the entrance to the shop. We took many pictures together but this local celebrity was too humble to look directly into the camera.
We shopped for a bit and then started off on the path leading to the opposite side of the island. It was a relatively easy ‘hike’, but the views were pretty spectacular.
Local farmer and his wife selling bok choy. Doesn’t get much fresher than that… would make sure this is on the menu for our meal later. Shortly after we spotted our destination on the other side of the island. There, we eat!
Thanks for handpicking our meal, sir!(Look at that XL garoupa in the tank up top. Poor guy! Almost as unfortunate as Jake that day.) We didn’t eat this bucket of goodness on the right but … so delicious looking. I did eat a whole prawn (thanks Helen), eyes, feet, tail and all – and survived! Quite good (crispy), actually.
Bye Lamma. I promise to bring Jake back.
