Thanks Grand Prix, for being the perfect excuse to head to Singapore for the weekend. Not that Jake and I followed Formula 1 (or could even claim to know anything about it!) when we booked our tickets – but hey, our friends were going, and even more perfect, my friend Gosia was making her return to Singapore and THAT sealed the deal.
We knew only slightly more about Singapore than we did about F1. Jake had the advantage over me having been there oh, 20 years ago. Considering the city has sprung to life only in the past 15 years, his advantage was pretty small. So what is our verdict on our most recent destination? I’m sure you can guess – amazing!! And you know what else? The racing was pretty awesome as well.
First off, we owe a HUGE thank you to our friends and THE perfect hosts Gosia and Ken. Crazy to think that us girls have known each since our high school days in Chicago and here we meet across the world.
Introduction to Singapore. That’s Marina Bay Sands in the background – a three-tower hotel with a cruise-ship-shaped rooftop. You can imagine the views up there right? More to come on that…
It’s hot, hot, hot here – year round. And by hot, I mean hotter AND more humid than HK which I didn’t think was possible. Luckily Jake came prepared for the weekend – nothing a dozen hankies and B-Cool cold patches and a stash of USA jerseys can’t handle.
Gosia and Ken’s neighborhood in Singa. Pristine, peaceful, perfect. Very similar to the picture below this one of our digs in HK:
So remember Marina Bay Sands from oh, a couple pics up? We made it to the top.
Too good not to include one more panorama.
The track for F1 is pretty amazing – especially considering I was expecting a Nascar-style stadium. How silly of me. The race is held almost entirely on city streets – oh, and Singapore is the only place where F1 is held at night. (Thanks Neal for the debriefing session on the journey over )
Vintage cars for each of the drivers. I only took one shot of them before the races started and upon closer inspection when we got home, I see that it just happened to be of Vettel’s car. The guy who won. Coincidence or should I start betting on these events??
Not a bad backdrop for Katy Perry afterwards!
Another view of the track below. I’m probably calling that wrong. Maybe ‘street circuit’ is the more appropriate term since Dale Earnhardt Jr. is not here.
I have about 38 of this same shot. Essentially of other people’s phones. But if you look really hard you can see one of the cars whizzing by….
Thanks to our dear friends for an amazing weekend!
